Before the bedding is made
We have set out a process that comes before making, to give you the best possible chance of enjoying all the comfort of natural, handcrafted, French bedding.
We believe that the search for the best comfort for you runs through this preliminary exchange, where we ask you the right questions and you give us the answers that let us shape the bedding made for you.
This process has proved its worth, as shown by our delighted customers. Even with such positive reviews, however, bedding comfort remains subjective.
The work we do before making starts is essential and cannot be rushed. You play a key role in defining what you need.
We owe it to the customer to guide that choice, without influencing it, or as little as possible:
- by asking the right questions
- by listening to the need
- by taking any constraints into account
- by sharing information as clearly and as fully as we can, while knowing how to admit that we do not know everything
Before making begins, we take the time this requires to set out the specification, so as to design a mattress that is good for your health the first time around.
It is a key step in building trust. Do not buy if you do not feel comfortable.

Defining the sleeper profile
Here is the method we have used since the workshops were founded, to do everything we can to satisfy you the first time around. We start by getting a clearer picture of your sleeper profile.
While respecting your privacy and your right not to answer, the Le Briand bedding makers ask about your lifestyle and your past experiences with other mattresses before making the bed that will suit you best.
Taking the time to define your sleeper profile and agree on the best possible bedding solution gives us every chance of designing bedding that is as well suited to you as possible from the outset.
Our approach is to define, in close collaboration with our sleepers, the exact specification of the mattress and/or box spring we will then make. Until we are convinced that the bedding suits you perfectly, we keep guiding you before making starts.
Build
First of all, it means knowing the measurements of the person who will use it:
- age
- height
- weight
- any sensitivity in the back
- known allergies
Is the bedding meant for children or for adults?
The physical characteristics of the sleepers are essential data for finding the right degree of comfort.
Sleeping habits
We then turn to certain aspects of sleep, to know concretely, and above all to be able to put into words, your habits, your experiences of comfort and discomfort, and how the bed is used.
- Sleeping position and the position you fall asleep in
- Time spent in bed during the week and on weekends
- How long it takes to fall asleep during the week and on weekends
- Quality of sleep (restless or fairly calm)
- Sensitivity to extreme temperatures (always cold or always warm)
- How much you perspire and the discomfort that follows
- Level of comfort and pleasure at bedtime (a moment of pleasure or not?)
How would you describe your ideal bedding? Cozy / supple / firm / hard / …?
How the bed is used
- How many sleepers (single bed or double bed): a double bed for two people, or more? a single bed for one person?
- How often it is used (occasionally or every day)
- Twin beds: how often they are separated (able to be pulled apart now and then, or for good)
- The layout of the current bedding
- The layout of the space the future bedding will go into
Once again, if we touch on matters that are rather private it is to gauge your well-being. That said, we fully understand if you would rather keep some things to yourself or answer simply, without going into detail.
Setting the specification
Now that the details and the particulars of the pieces to be made are identified, we start making the wool mattress and/or the box spring and/or another decorative piece, to offer you the best-fitting comfort we can.

After the making
Once the piece is finished, it is delivered. We make a point of staying available to our customers for any adjustments to the firmness of the mattress, the structure of the box spring and the balance of the whole.
When your new bedding arrives, especially if it is the first time you have slept on a traditional bed, there are a few habits to pick up and a few things to know for a gentle transition:
If you want to adjust the firmness of the mattress (only at the margin, since the overall firmness is settled before making begins), your mattress comes back to the workshops for a day of reworking. You can even do it at home if you live far away or feel able to carry out the operation yourself. In that case, we send you the tools, the supplies you need and detailed instructions. To keep the mattress and the box spring in the best possible condition, we have also drawn up a list of tips for caring for your natural bedding.
Finally, should there be a complaint about one of our products, we undertake to stand by you, to assess any defect and to propose solutions.
