Introduction to refurbishing a woollen mattress
The wool mattress is the only type of mattress that can be renovated by reusing and reconstituting its original filling.
Refurbishing consists of restoring it to its original condition, recovering as much of the wool as possible.
The wool is aerated, cleaned, dusted, plumped up and re-densified.
The refurbishment gives the mattress back its plumpness and softness.
With a new fabric, the new mattress has the same functional qualities as the original, thanks to the properties of wool, which does not deteriorate and can be reused for at least 60 years.
When renovating a mattress, we can change the size, shape and firmness of the new mattress.
Time between two mattress refurbishments
After 8 to 12 years of daily use and/or when the bounce of the mattress sags, creating a situation of discomfort, it is advisable to redo it.
The interval between two repairs varies between 8 and 12 years.
This refurbishment operation is therefore repeated several times during the life of a wool mattress.

Steps for restoring a woollen mattress
Once the mattress has arrived at the workshop, it is unravelled and the wool is then passed through a carding machine.
Discover all the steps involved in repairing a woollen mattress on our platform of advice and practical guides that restore plumpness to wool and clean it.
The entire refurbishment is being carried out in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine workshops in Paris.

Time to repair a woollen mattress
Mattress refurbishment (except in very complicated cases) can be carried out from morning to night.
Together, we’ll set a service date (taking into account current orders and activity) so that you don’t have to find an alternative sleeping solution while we take care of his bedding.
For a standard 140 cm x 190 cm mattress, for example, this operation can usually be carried out during the day, subject to an appointment.
If you also want to redo your box spring, it may take longer to restore a mattress and box spring set.
Please contact us beforehand to discuss the details of the restoration work.
Logistics before and after refurbishment
We will pick up and deliver your woollen mattress and/or complete bedding.
We invite you to contact us to discuss the details of the operations together:
- estimate the time it will take to refurbish the traditional bedding once we have it in hand
- agreeing on a date for collection, restoration (depending in particular on the activity of the workshops and orders in progress) and delivery so that you don’t have to find a temporary sleeping solution
- estimate the price
We use a courier to pick up your mattress from your address. Finally, the same courier comes to deliver your mattress, which is then refurbished.
