We have a way for you to part with it responsibly.
We tell ourselves it might still come in handy… Yet a wool mattress or box spring can sit in a corner indefinitely because we cannot bring ourselves to throw it away.
We could give them a second life.
Les Ateliers Le Briand offers a recycling program for natural, eco-friendly mattresses and box springs you no longer need.
Do not underestimate the second life you could give your bedding, or how it could support your well-being.
After all, they can still be useful.
One advantage of traditional bedding is that it is made mostly from reusable materials, especially wool.
The wool in a mattress can be washed, sanitized and reused to make new mattresses over multiple cycles.
Even if you no longer see a use for it or it looks “tired,” our assessment may be different.
In keeping with our environmental commitments, we believe it is our responsibility to offer a take-back solution for traditional bedding you no longer use, so its materials can continue to be put to good use.
This program is not a buy-back scheme for bedding you no longer wish to keep. No money changes hands when we take back a mattress or box spring you no longer need.
Instead, we offer you a way to dispose of it responsibly.
We will be happy to talk with you and guide you through the recycling process.
And who knows? You might change your mind…
…once you rediscover all the benefits of a wool mattress or a box spring that can be refurbished and leave our workshops as good as new!
You may be surprised by wool’s remarkable qualities.
Wool is only damaged when a mattress is not stored in suitable conditions. It can therefore generally be reused without any problem, even if you consider your mattress old.
When it comes to recycling this kind of bedding, we always offer three options:
Option 1: our take-back program
Option 2: wool mattress refurbishment
Option 3: refurbishment of a spring box spring
Another option: if you no longer need a bed, it may also be possible to turn the materials into a sofa or cushions, provided the materials allow it.

If refurbishment is not an option…
A few things to consider before bringing us your pieces.
We only take back traditionally made wool mattresses and box springs.
For other types of bedding you no longer want, please contact your local bulky-waste service or take them to a waste collection center.
Another point: we do not buy them from you. No financial transaction is involved.
Two reasons explain our position:
- We need to inspect the mattress and box spring to assess their condition.
- We cannot know in advance when or how the materials will be reused.

You can drop off the bed or bed component for recycling during our workshop opening hours:
- Monday: 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., 1:00–6:00 p.m.
- Tuesday: 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., 1:00–6:00 p.m.
- Wednesday: 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., 1:00–6:00 p.m.
- Thursday: 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., 1:00–6:00 p.m.
- Friday: 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., 1:00–6:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
- Sunday: closed
If you cannot travel, we suggest using Cocolis, a French platform for transporting bulky items, to send us your mattress.
Let us dispose of your bulky item
Getting the bed to our workshops is not easy.
The idea is to share the work: you arrange delivery, and we take the bulky item off your hands so that we can assess it quickly.
It is good for the planet too!
But what happens to them?
Nothing is wasted.
We receive and sort old mattresses and box springs.
If the materials can be reused, we reclaim them and give them a new life.
Even if they are badly damaged, we will find a way to put them to use.
The cycle is complete. 🙂
