The first beginnings of this company can be traced back to around 1880.
Our history is built on a background of craft effervescence and is anchored in the furniture district of Paris, the Faubourg Saint-Antoine.
The workshop follows in the wake of the generations of mattress and bedding makers who fed the craft energy of the faubourg.
The Le Briand artisan mattress and bedding makers specialise in the making and the refurbishment of natural, traditional bedding.
The adventure of the Le Briand workshops is above all a story of transmission: of age-old techniques, of a philosophy and of know-how coming from this historically craft-based Parisian district, taken up from generation to generation since the 19th century.
The common thread? A demand for meticulous design, so that you can sleep as comfortably as possible.
Today we are two young new owners, proud to be able to announce that we have taken over this historic family business.
Proud, not because our company is intrinsically attached to the history of one family, but rather to that of a district. It stands for a transmission that has taken place over time, ever since it was founded. It upholds values that move us and that we take to heart every day.

Ancestral trades
The company follows in the footsteps of the bedding-making houses that marked the history of the furniture district of Paris, from Maison Lacoste to Maison Le Briand, by way of more modest craftsmen.
Each of them, in their own measure, helped shape the know-how of these ancestral trades:
- mattress maker
- bedding maker
The making and the restoration of handmade, sustainable and ecological bedding is therefore the fruit of a long tradition that is part of our common ground.
The know-how of making and refurbishing traditional bedding has been built up over a history of more than 100 years.
A mattress and bedding maker’s know-how handed down from father to son
In most of these establishments of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, this know-how and its techniques were handed down from generation to generation.
Mr Jacques Le Briand played his part in this handing down of an excellent know-how and of its craft values until 1999, the year he passed the baton on.
The Le Briand workshops have been a training place for many apprentices. Even if the last few years, economically harder, have slowed down these transmissions, we have always insisted that the know-how be passed on, so that we relearn how to produce and consume differently, for the sake of good sleep.
Our workshops are among the last ones specializing in traditional bedding in France.
Workshops in the heart of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine
Historically, the trade of mattress maker was an itinerant activity.
In courtyards, in the streets, under the shelter of bridges or in the open air along the Seine, it was often carried out by a couple, husband and wife, who shared the tasks between them.

The Le Briand workshops are historically tied to the Faubourg Saint-Antoine district (11th arrondissement of Paris).
The first premises of the Lacoste/Le Briand workshops were at 21 rue Moreau, in the 12th arrondissement of Paris.
In the early 1950s, they then settled in the cité de l’ameublement, in a street that is aptly named: the cité de l’Ameublement.
In 1999, Patrice Sébille, an engineer by training, decided through a set of circumstances to take over the company, and so to keep this superb craft alive.
25 years and one retirement later, Théo and Rosalie took over in April 2024, resolved and happy. Coming from different backgrounds, they complement each other perfectly to set out together on this wonderful adventure, as much a human one as a craft one.
Maison Le Briand is part of that rich fabric of furniture craftsmen who have made the reputation of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine in Paris since the 19th century.
A great many furniture-related crafts were teeming there at the time:
- cabinetmaking and joinery
- upholstery
- mattress making / bedding
- etc…

Today still, we are part of this lineage, built around the transformation of wool and traditional technologies.
We devote ourselves exclusively to made-to-measure manufacture or to the restoration of wool mattresses, box springs and headboards, but also of bench seats, daybeds, floor mattresses and so on.
Our daily challenge is to offer every customer the best possible comfort, adapting to your request and to your various constraints. Each piece is thus created according to the dimensions, the look and the comfort asked for.
