Frequently asked questions about upcoming and current orders
You are very welcome.
In fact, we recommend it.
Our workshop is open to visitors. The door onto the street is usually open as well.
Stop by whenever it suits you. We will be delighted to introduce you to natural, eco-friendly bedding made in France and, if you wish, discuss your plans for sleeping more comfortably.
If we have bedding available to try at the workshop (it is a workshop, not a showroom), you can experience a wool mattress and/or a box spring for yourself.
Simply give us a quick call before you come (+33 1 43 72 08 87) to make sure we are not away making a delivery when you plan to visit.
Our opening hours are:
8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday
Here is the address and directions to Les Ateliers Le Briand.
Please feel free to visit us.
First of all, buying from a distance carries some risk because comfort is subjective.
Distance makes the process less straightforward, but it is possible.
It increases the risk that we may not get the firmness exactly right, especially if this is your first experience with a wool mattress.
We determine the right firmness by considering your body type, your past experiences with bedding and the bed base that will be used. It is also important to tell us as much as possible about any physical, physiological or psychological sensitivities.
We will not start anything until we are confident that the solution can satisfy you. This is a two-way process: we need to understand you before we can proceed, which is why openness matters.
Here is some information that will help us understand you better and reduce the risk of disappointment: https://le-briand.fr/en/advice/
Even so, we would prefer to meet you and talk with you.
The only way to try our mattresses and box springs is to visit the workshops.
We understand if that is not possible.
If the item ultimately does not suit you, we will of course take responsibility for our part. We also ask that expectations remain reasonable and that responsibility be shared: we do our utmost to provide comprehensive information so that you can make an informed decision, while distance adds complexity to a subject that is already difficult to assess.
You can pay for your order:
✅ in cash
✅ by bank transfer
✅ by check
Other payment methods may be considered on a case-by-case basis. We are flexible, so please tell us what you prefer.
A 40% deposit is required to confirm your order.
The balance is due on delivery.
We may be able to offer payment arrangements on a case-by-case basis.
We understand, of course, that price can be a major obstacle.
However, because bedding is so important to health, we want to take the time to offer a broader perspective and share our experience.
We are fully aware of the effect this kind of bedding purchase can have on your budget.
At the same time, we do everything we can to make this kind of bedding as accessible as possible.
Before you conclude that these statements are contradictory, allow us to put the cost of our products into perspective so that you can make a fully informed decision:
Price is forgotten; quality remains. We suggest assessing the price in light of the product’s objective qualities, particularly its longevity and the remarkable properties of wool.
We have chosen not to inflate our prices artificially with excessive margins that cover aggressive paid distribution, lavish overhead or services that most of you will never use. Our prices are grounded in real costs: above all, the cost of high-quality raw materials and the time our craftspeople spend making each piece.
You can pay in installments at no extra charge. We understand that you may want to spread this investment over several months.
– Buying a natural box spring is a long-term investment. There is a difference between the purchase price and the cost over its useful life: the initial expense becomes a long-term saving.
Learn more about our prices
This is the first step toward receiving a quotation for your project based on the bed size you gave us. Without the bedding dimensions, we cannot prepare an estimate.
The next step is to discuss your comfort needs, particularly the firmness level, along with your personalization and finish choices, including the ticking and the type of edge roll.
To do this, please call us or visit us.
The price range has a minimum and a maximum.
It depends on:
– how the piece will be used
– the materials used (100% wool or a blend of horsehair and wool)
– the complexity of making it
– the comfort features you need
– your personalization and finish choices
The range becomes more precise as our discussions progress.
From our first conversation, we help you define your needs if necessary. Drawing on our practical knowledge and experience, we can also offer a useful perspective.
We listen to you.
We respond with observations, suggestions and recommendations.
We ask questions.
We help you work through any concerns.
Taking this time before production helps us understand your expectations and personalization choices more clearly, with the aim of achieving the comfort that suits you. It also allows us to refine a price that must be fair and reasonable.
Because we aim for the best possible quality within your purchasing criteria for every piece that leaves our workshops, we do not organize our products into ranges.
In short, a lower price does not mean lower quality, and a higher price does not mean a premium range.
The price varies primarily according to the work required to create the piece you want.
Whatever the price, you will receive a carefully and precisely made product whose quality is tailored to your comfort.
The price-estimation process is very similar for private and trade customers, although some factors, such as volume, will differ.
When you contact us, please make it clear that you are a trade customer.

The workshops close in August and during some school-holiday periods, such as Christmas.
These closures have some effect on lead times.
Because of the way we make each piece, our schedule can also be affected by a sudden increase in orders or by an unfavorable sequence of vacations, public holidays and the extra days off sometimes taken between them.
Even so, we do our best to accommodate the date when you need your bedding.
Finally, before your piece leaves the workshops, we coordinate with you to make sure it arrives at a convenient time.
We do not hold sales or offer promotions. Our prices remain the same throughout the year.
The decision should be about choosing something essential to your well-being, not choosing a promotion.
Choosing the right bedding begins by stepping away from a purchasing cycle driven solely by price.
Our bedding also remains at the same price all year, except during periods of sharp inflation in raw-material costs. This puts customers in a healthier position:
– we do not create a false sense of urgency around such an important everyday purchase
– we do not drive a purchase decision with a temporary price cut
– how would you feel if you bought a mattress and found it selling for less a few weeks later?

We do not offer the kind of formal warranty commonly found with retailers and industrial manufacturers.
We have chosen not to inflate our prices with margins designed to cover possible after-sales offers such as “satisfaction guaranteed or your money back,” “free returns” or a “100-night trial.” Nothing is truly free. Most of us would rather not pay extra for a service we are unlikely to use. Our prices primarily reflect labor and material costs. This is a way of consuming that is grounded in reality.
With manual work, the marginal cost of production is not close to zero, unlike many goods sold in stores or online and produced by automated, mechanized and standardized machinery. Every adjustment requires labor that is significant at our scale, however minor it may seem to you.
Working with craftspeople depends above all on trust. If that trust is not there, we prefer not to force the matter.
In life generally, who chooses to work with people they do not trust?
For us as for you, dissatisfaction creates an uncomfortable situation that is pleasant for no one.
We therefore do our utmost to get it right the first time, using a made-to-measure approach and guiding you before production begins.
It is not possible to control everything, even though the desire to do so can sometimes become obsessive today.
To minimize the risk of dissatisfaction, which in many cases means finding the least imperfect solution, we provide a collection of educational resources to help you make the most informed choice possible:
- Personalized advice
- Frequently asked questions
- Guides to wool mattresses and box springs
- An educational platform
If you have a problem, we will be at the other end of the phone and will try to find a solution.
What matters is trusting that we will not abandon you, rather than relying on a warranty agreement that no one reads and whose fine print is designed to avoid responsibility.
If you are far from us, you would be responsible for transport costs to return the pieces to the workshops and send them back to your home. We cover everything else, namely labor and material costs.
This also applies if the mattress needs to be made firmer or if there is a design defect.
Given the size and nature of our business (we are not Amazon), we do not have the financial capacity to absorb every cost associated with returning a product.
To summarize, so that you can make a fully informed decision:
- Whatever the reason, except in the case of objective nonconformity, the financial burden must be shared if the item needs to be returned to the workshops. Your share consists of the transport costs, to which we add no markup. We cover everything else, namely labor and material costs.
- There is no warranty.
- We will be available by phone and will work with you in good faith to resolve the problem.
Frequently asked questions about delivery
Delivery of mattresses and bed bases is handled by a professional carrier selected for quality and flexibility 🚚.
We have already worked with most of them, and we only hire carriers whose service has met our standards.
A flat delivery fee applies.
Once the making or refurbishment schedule has been set, we contact you to agree on the best delivery date and time slot for your availability.
Whenever possible, we also like to deliver our work ourselves.
It is a welcome opportunity to talk with you about bedding or anything else.
In that case, your carrier is one of the people who made your piece.
The delivery fee is calculated using two main factors:
– the final delivery destination
– the volume and weight of the item or items being transported
Our partner carriers base their charges on these two factors because they pool costs rather than charging solely for the distance traveled.
They optimize each load by making several deliveries on the same trip.
They make the most of the available capacity in their vehicle.
When this lowers our logistics costs, we pass the savings on in your final bill.
The delivery fee also includes:
– organization
– handling assistance
Unless otherwise stated, the delivery fee does not include installing the new bedding or helping to remove your existing bedding. If you raise these needs before delivery, we can help you find solutions.
We tell you the delivery fee before you make any commitment or pay for your purchase.
For example, the basic fee for one delivery within Paris is €70, including tax.
Tell us where the bedding needs to go and we can estimate the delivery fee.
The cost of this additional service is itemized separately from the price of the products ordered.
This lets you choose the additional services you want, much like selecting from a menu.
You MUST check in the driver’s presence (the driver may even be one of the Le Briand mattress makers, since we like to deliver ourselves when possible) the condition of the goods.
It is important not to let the carrier leave before checking the package or packages in their presence.
If you find any damage:
– take photographs of it
– write a dated and signed letter describing the precise reason for your claim
You have 48 hours to send us your letter and we will take the necessary steps with the insurer.
Without these steps, no claim can be processed.
For now, we can serve customers throughout Europe.
We are working toward delivering farther afield, so please tell us where the bedding needs to go.
Distance affects transport costs, production lead times and, for refurbishment, how long you will be without your bedding.
Our workshops are located in the 11th arrondissement of Paris.
We pack our new pieces in very thick polyethylene film to protect them until their final destination.
When refurbishing a mattress, we often reuse its old ticking to wrap the newly remade mattress.

After carefully making or refurbishing your bedding, we can also arrange its delivery.
We tailor the arrangements to the distance between you and our workshops:
