## How our wool mattress is handmade in France

Discover the **French, handmade and made-to-measure manufacture** of the pure wool upholstered mattress. Following [centuries-old know-how](https://le-briand.fr/en/history/), our craft mattress makers make it **by hand**, to suit each person’s comfort needs.

### Wool mattress specifications

Pure French virgin sheep’s wool, in a quantity gauged to your comfort needs

Thickness

About twenty centimeters on delivery. After running in, about 16 to 18 cm overall, including the crown, and 14 to 16 cm at the side wall, measured border to border

Finishes

Classic, with the visible roll edge running all around the mattress; English style, known as bordé-piqué, with the roll edge hidden under a braided fabric band, for a flat border with crisp edges; imperial

Firmness and support

Set during making (amount of wool, density and tightness of the tufts) according to your preferences, your sleeper profile and the type of bed base

Synthetic materials

None, except the polyester tufting thread (under 1% of the weight)

### Can we try the wool mattress at the workshop in Paris?

### When should a wool mattress be refurbished?

We recommend refurbishing a wool mattress every 8 to 12 years, depending on use, the sleeper's build, the firmness and the care given. In practice, many of our customers wait at least 15 years.
